How is your stand on lying to the stakeholders about the project management.

To give context I worked on a research project for the half a year. Had to report yesterday about what I would do differently if I could start over. I responded truthfully and told that since now I know the caviates of the type of project I did, I would do nearly everything differently. Today I received a feedback from my boss that this was an absolute No Go.

I don't understand now what purpose it would serve to lie towards my stakeholders. Can someone clarify this for me thanks

    As you are representing your company when your stakeholder asked you that, you have to be careful to stand by the side of the one who pays you. Internal you could and should talk about it like you did

    the client might think now that you build bullshit for them

    Ok I see that but wouldn't it come out sooner or later anyways if I built bullshit. And then they would not only have a software that does not fulfill their requirements but also they find out that we lied to them.
    But maybe I am just too stupid to understand how the world really works😅

    The problem is that many clients don't understand what you are telling them. Technical people understand that all software could be improved. Non-technical people just hear that they got a substandard product---even the guy who built it said so!

    Don't lie to anyone because you wouldn't want to be lied to and because of its consequences.
