I've always heard about the "if one woman can deliver a baby in 9 months, 9 can do it in a month" situation people got in. But my bos just quoted that to me since we are stuck on deadlines.

    I actually have more trouble around here with the other related, common problem - that being that the powers that be think that adding a bunch of people to a late project will somehow magically fix it.

    No, that means that I've got to stop the work that I'm doing while I bring 3 people up to speed on the project and the last year or two's worth of work, for them to be able to do a small fraction of the work I was doing in the first place, that may or may not be done correctly if I'm lucky.

    Takes at least 3 months for a new team member to break even on their contribution. And that's for a *very good* team member. It's usually much more like 6+.
