olback109815yI would use it regularly if my bank could get their shit together. They can't make my account accept contact less payments. It works for other people.
-
@olback more places than I thought actually accept Google pay, but the place I go to the most (Walmart lol) doesn't use it. Oh and i usually go through the drive through, so it's harder to use my watch/phone than it is to use cash
If they could get their shit together, that'd be great. -
@legacy07 I just (as in a few weeks ago lol) got my first contactless card. Still haven't been able to use it, but I have used my phone and watch a few times whenever my old card wouldn't read or the time I lost my wallet for a few hours.
-
olback109815y@Stuxnet Google Pay doesn't work either since the bank sees that as contactless as well. I event went to the bank and they said that they couldn't do anything about it.
-
stop68675ySince the vending machines at the german trainstation and mcdonalds terminals support it.
And i use a special solution from my bank. -
@Root damn how stupid are you? It's literally tap and go?
Jk jk I understand lol
It took me a few tries to get it. Chic fil a at lunch time was not the best place to try it first. It took a minute of trying before I gave up and paid cash. -
I have a friend who only uses her apple watch to pay. It looks amazing tbh. But I don't even have a card so that's not fun. Samsung pay is one of the most advanced mobile payment apps but it only works with s6 and after and only in supported countries. It even works with traditional magnetic stripe cards
-
legacy071715y@Stuxnet yeah i got monzo recently as a back up incase i lose my wallet or something because of my main bank being shitheads for not adding it to google pay yet but NFC will not replace the contactless card for some time i reckon.
-
@fuck2code I'd like to transition into like 75% of my payments being NFC pay based, but that's probably years away. Slowly but surely.
I only have a debit card, which I got whenever I opened a checking account. Because nobody under the age of 35 writes checks anymore lol. (I genuinely wasn't sure how to write one the first time and screwed it up lol) -
@Stuxnet to be honest I'd trade the 5 minutes it takes for me to pay with cash for even 30 seconds when paying with a phone
-
@legacy07 I lost my wallet for a few hours (dropped it and my friend had it, but couldn't get it until after a few hours at work) and needed food before work, so had to use NFC pay.
Also went to a baseball game, but the reader didn't like my card. After 10 tries, I realized the thing accepted Google pay -
@fuck2code Right.
Like don't get me wrong, I'mma always carry cash because everyone takes it, but I'd love to not have to use it as much. It'll happen, but slowly. -
@Stuxnet at least google pay is supported here. And all of the POS I have seen support apple/google pay so that's nice
-
@Stuxnet also the friend I was talking about was at a wedding and she everyone there sent money with revolut so we don't use cash even for that anymore
-
Wish I could but Google play services doesn't play nice with edXposed/magisk unless I downgrade it's version.
-
@Stuxnet I'd still carry a small amount of cash for tips but yeah, ideally i'd only have my phone and keys on me, maybe a deck of cards
-
C0D4681385yApple Pay is faster then my normal card - scary, I don't even have to get my wallet out any more, except for the occasional place that doesn't accept it.
-
Literally almost everywhere here in Aus is contactless. My mate only ever uses his watch, I use cards but not my phone.. never felt the need to involve another party in something already so effective at taking your money.
It’s so prevalent people automatically wait for your card and get surprised when you have cash.
In the US, for a country I class as the consumer capital I was extremely surprised and disappointed at how absolutely poorly the payment systems work. I pretty much just always used cash. Would have though if there was a way to make it efficient for people to buy shit, America would have it sorted. Nope. Payment system ClusterFuck over there. -
@legacy07 it's customary here (Romania) to leave 10%. I leave more at some places where the staff was extremely nice
-
@badcopnodonuts I'm from BFE, so the amount of places that accept it outside of the few chains places is low.
But I feel like if you're in one of the larger cities, then it'll be more prevalent. -
-
legacy071715yYeah some restaurants add 10% service charge or tips shit on top forcefully which i gladly make them remove. Not really needed when they try to make me feel like i'm obliged to give them extra cash for their obliged service.
P.s i'm not against giving tips lol i occasionally do that rarity. -
@fuck2code It does but it's a game of cat and mouse. Magisk get updated to bypass it and then Gplay services get updated to detect it. There's an ongoing issue on magisks GitHub about it.
-
@stuxnet I used to tip 20% all the time until my family let me know (to quote black panther) "we don't do that here " so now I just leave 10% to staff that didn't get in the way and 20% to some for excellent service. Do you want to see the shittiest burger I have ever eaten?
-
C0D4681385y@badcopnodonuts i felt the same way, but then figured Apple has my card number anyway for the AppStore and iCloud payments.
They are already involved in taking my money.
Plus the transaction history is 100x better then NABs since it tells me where I've actually spent my money vs NAB taking 3-4 days to fill it in 🤷♂️
The only draw back is, now Apple has a way to track my purchases, but meh, it's only coffee 😉 -
@Stuxnet I waited 40 minutes for this cancer of a burger and I paid 30 Ron (6$)
The place has 1.8 on maps so you know it's good. I put it back on the counter after the first bite. I regret not calling consumer protection -
@fuck2code what the fuck
I've seen some shitty burgers before... But that is ridiculous.
Looks like someone fell asleep cooking that burger damn -
C0D4681385y@fuck2code well it did only have a 1.8/5 I'm surprised there's something resembling a burger at all.
-
Root825995y@Stuxnet No matter what I tried, it just would not work. I blame Samsung and their super buggy code.
-
@M1sf3t considering you're from BFE (just worse) like me, I wouldn't be surprised if many places there don't even accept cards lol
-
webapp5945y@badcopnodonuts I use my Apple watch all the time for paying, it’s super easy! I also like the look on people’s faces when I do it. 😄 But Apple does not store your card details or transactions...
-
I do :) faster than pulling my wallet out so I can use my card... I don't even remember the PIN to my debit card, I pay for everything using Google Pay (you can use Google Pay wherever they take contactless Visa and/or MasterCard - which means everywhere they take cards in general)
//I SKIPPED READING ALL THE COMMENTS, I AM RESPONDING TO THE ORIGINAL POST// -
@webapp Yeah paying with your watch looks handy but I would really love to believe apple doesn’t collect any data.
-
neriald14525y@webapp actually it does if you go to wallet and choose the card you can see your transactions
How many people use NFC pay on a regular basis?
question
