Well, to be fair this industry is only ~60 years old.
Unlike something like the construction industry which is a few thousand years old, we haven't had much time to work out how to do things properly (and even they are still shit at doing things properly when budgets and time are tight).
So it's really a huge free-for-all, similar to the Wild West. I for one prefer the deregulation - yes that has some downsides in terms of any idiot can call themselves a coder, but it also gives you a lot of freedom.
By the way - here are some great analogies: https://exceptionnotfound.net/usefu... -
@rutee07 "here is a bootcamp which teaches you to program in a week!"
What they don't tell at those camps is that this is an ever evolving world which requires you to keep up to date, aside from the fact that you actually need proper experience before you can qualify as an actual developer imho -
Root825995yWhy are most people* so absolutely fucking shit at their craft?
Because people are people, and they're overwhelmingly stupid and useless creatures. -

Also, since this industry is being bastardised as "any dumb fuck can code - be a pro in 24 hours" , we have a giant intake of dilusionals who think their shiny "award" from some random bootcamp qualifies them.
Now, don't get me wrong, I'm a self taught dev who's made lots of mistakes over the years, but the difference between a good dev and a junky is, a good dev will apply them selves to make sure they don't make those mistakes again or anyone else around them and keep improving themselves. -

Why are most developers/software engineers so absolutely fucking shit at their craft?
I understand incompetence exists in every occupation but it seems in development the ratio of bad developers to good developers is like 9:1. There’s a serious lack of quality in this industry and it’s only further exacerbated by coding bootcamps and orgs like general assembly pumping out more dog shit
