C0D4669025yActiveX gives you access to windows and folder directories, so yes, this can be used with ease with malicious intent.
But on the other hand, scripting processes with this was a dream for personal use 🙃

@C0D4 I've used it once to get the autofill the computername in a ticket formular.
But I didn't knew that ActiveX basically turns the Website into an executable (probably more restrictions but still). -
C0D4669025y@LinusCDE there was restrictions (in the sense the user had to give permission) but after that "ok".... it was not OK 😅

@C0D4 Just reading, that this was neessary for toolbar installation and stickers?!?
-
C0D4669025y@LinusCDE not sure, never really enjoyed the toolbar era 😂
I've mostly only used ActiveX for silent printing.
Basically grabbing a file and printing it without any prompts.
at the time there was a few sites that let you build your own toolbars and brand it. They just spat out the .exe for it to be distributed and installed.

M$ even admitted that ActiveX was not safe. They at least accepted the problem.
But just saying the the user: "Cool features = get hacked" is stupid.
