Waiting for that one recruiter to show up and searching for 20 years of experience of you two

KScott155y@calmyourtities quite frankly a lot of dumb garbage. most of the things I code have no actual utility, can't remember many off the top of my head. other than that there's this one game I've been working on for like a year and a half now
-
sayaws905yI'm 22 and I've been coding for technically 12 years, but most of them were basic games in Scratch. It gave me a grasp of algorithms and logic, and I really started coding more on my calculator in Basic when I was 15 or something. I was that kid that would do all sorts of programs to make everyone do their calculations easier and legally cheat on their exams 😊

How long you've been programming doesn't matter (beyond a year or two). Here's why.
I know people who have been programming for 20 years - but they are still doing the same thing they were doing 20 years ago. They are barely a better programmer than they were 20 years ago, and essentially have 1 years programming experience and 19 years repetition.
I also know people who have been in the industry for only 2 years and have worked with a wide variety of technologies in several different industries and can pick up new things very quickly and be productive very quickly.
These people are infinitely more useful than the guy who has been around for 20 years but only knows one language, one operating system, one database - and is super average in all 3 and cannot think outside of them. -
john-doe9405y@unsignedint it sure matters if you are a good programmer that perfects himself over time.
10 years of experience, I started at 18, and every year I can look back at the past and notice where I did improve this year. -
C0D4681455yProfessionally: 11 years
Since my first project: 16 years
Yes, I'm over 30.
@rutee07, I think I've been holding it for too long somehow.
@galileopy and why not? Explicits prevent confusion. -
For the corporate full time, 1 year.
Professionally, 3 years since my first internship.
Since I started learning to code, 9 years. But that was just basics of Java in school. -
Profesionally: 3 years, hell of a ride, thrown into the deep end from minute 1, loved it (seriously)
Since my first project: 20 years, an ex of my mother taught me a bit of C, VB, and html 2.0 when I was 13.
What have I built?
Mostly garbage till I started doing it professionally. A game on unity (mine sweeper) some web pages as a freelancer and some shitty web apps for a non tech compamy I worked for back then.
Then I started an apprenticeship where they threw me into the deep end from day 1. I loved it, learned a lot, and they rewarded me nicely too. 2 promotions with 2 additional pay raises in such a short time. -
For roundabout 12 years
I'm 20 now, was "writing" some smaller scripts for game mods at 8 y/o and started learning C/C++ at 11
how long have you been programming?
(I'm a 14y/o that's been programming/scripting for ~5 years now)
