If you stop doing something shady and wrong, it does not wipe out the fact that you did it in the first place. Apple has plenty of shady policies that are money driven and not consumer driven, just take a look at their repair policies.
I love the fact these big companies that everyone loves like Apple and Google are actually more shady than most because their sheeple will ignore their antics.
Google removed 'Don't be evil' from their code of conduct and it didn't raise any alarm. -
Sumafu22425y@detlefgrohs But what proves that Apple slowed down old devices intentionally? It is true that old devices slowed down about time, but that could also be just the effect of a more resource hungry system. And this is just a very normal effect of progress. The first iPhoneOS didn’t do very much in background, but this background tasks increased over time, just because the system evolved. With Android you just can’t see this effect because an Android device doesn’t get updated about such a long time.

Sumafu22425y@detlefgrohs ah, you meant the battery slow down. Which is a security feature which prevents the iPhone from crashing when it’s cold outside. And everyone can disable this feature every time.
In my eyes Apple did nothing wrong, only the news corporations hated about Apple, so that everyone thought that Apple did bad things. -

There's the continuous battle within the triangle of power consumption, features & performance.
Most users want more animated stickers in their chat app, and also more conservative battery usage.
Not power users, like the average devRant visitor, but still... most users. Like your mom. (no insult intended).
So OS updates will favor people whose brain doesn't process more than 1 discrete action/operation per second anyway.
That means updates will make phones slower.
