Alllll these web devs in here bashing WordPress, let me ask out of genuine curiosity... what do you suggest as an alternative for your clients?

A custom made website?

Almost anything

Some kind of static site generator powered by something similar to GitHub pages works in 90% of cases. At least then there's no security patches to keep up to date.

Laravel or hasura and node js

Depends why you are using wordpress.

Small site:
static and custom

Needs to have CRUD:
ModX, ghost, almost any cms really or custom

E-commerce:
I built that from scratch.

Wordpress doesn't solve much when you can built these things yourself.

Personally I hate wordpress, but my hate comes from when clients want to use wordpress and not using its blogging features at all but wants a custom site

@C0D4 That’s the point though. Most clients don’t have the budget for custom and when they want to update content themselves well that’s a whole other story.
Custom is good for a large business that has been around for a while and knows it’s exact requirements.

@theKarlisK I love Django but how is management of that any better than WordPress. For a client on a small budget that needs something running fairly quickly that they can manage themselves once the design is up I don’t feel Django is as good. Medium size and up sure...

@netikras I’m about custom all the way but most SME businesses need something they can update. A static website is always first choice for smaller sites with minimal requirements.

@badcopnodonuts I have options for cms systems.

And I agree, custom usually comes in when it's big business or some creative features that need added to the core of the system.

@theKarlisK because I feel wix is worse than WordPress and google sites ... I just dislike google and haven’t looked. Will check it out
