However, C has a defined ABI because there's no name mangling, and that's pretty nice for libraries.

How so? C++ interop with C (and the other way round) is basically seamless.

it is full of warnings only in microsoft visual studio, and after version 6.0
using c libs with any other c++ compiler is fine
