You have to be really dumb to hire someone and have them do nothing the whole week, it's a complete waste of money. I got some tasks friday 8 am and i was done by 10:30. That's incompetence to lead.

When I have nothing to do, I take tasks from co-workers. We usually know who is working on what and can mostly take over for each other.

@darksideofyay I'm sometimes the only one in my projects, but I can also do stuff for other teams. If nothing else, then e.g. reviews.

This week, I took support requests and telecons from a co-worker's project because I noticed he was busy on something else. When I had finished them, boss came around to ask me taking over his stuff and was surprised that I had already done that without his request.

@Fast-Nop let me rephrase actually. i'm their whole IT in 5 offices, because they fired my boss and he took the platform with him (he owns the repos and all, it was really dumb, they can't even sue because they can't prove they owned it)

@darksideofyay If a company can't even prove they own their shit, RUN. They are doomed anyway.

You might want to use the opportunity to plan how to protect yourself, since your company seems to be trying to commit suicide. If they didn't part amicably enough with your boss to manage to retain their stuff (and were incompetent enough to not require things be done properly, which would have prevented him from screwing them like he did), they can do the same to you, assuming they don't go under first. Either way, you're more likely to end up regretting sticking around for long than you are ending up the hero who saves their bacon.

Good luck either way. It sounds like an experience I'd rather not have, but I'm sure you'll learn a lot no matter what happens. Just make sure the worst-case scenario doesn't crush you, too.

@powerfulparadox i'm just here for the little money i get, tbh i could be somewhere else for the same pay, it's just a pain to readjust. plus, i'm working really close to home.

@darksideofyay Good. Use it to learn what you can, but have an exit plan. Hopefully you won't need it for a while (or, optimistically, at all).
