My own colo server. My own cloud. My own infra.

Fuck all of the CSP's and their fucking broken TOS and their data privacy violations!

Why do you think Amazon is so cheap? Because when they discover a product/service/software on AWS makes money, they WILL Reverse engineer it, make it and price you out of the market. It's their business model!

I don't say they don't do it, because is well know that's their politics at Amazon. But AWS make a shi last as of benefits!!! AWS is the reason they can waste money at Amazon.
So it cheap, but even at that price, they make money!

Please do not forget AWS heavily cuts hardware costs and does mixed calculation (VMs - EC2 - are quite expensive, but still over provisioned in lower tiers; on the other hand, S3 and Cloudfront are relatively "cheap").

Of course this does not mean it is a reason to trust them, as I would not trust US companies for various reasons - e.g. their secret agencies and permissions -, but their 'cheap' (depends on the service) prices are also not automatically a reason to distrust them.

I could not care 2 shits about money. If people knew how money actually works, eople would have risen in revolt... but that is not the topic here.

My rant about CSP's in general (not just amazon) is that they seemingly offer you the best computing platforms you could buy. In a sense that is true since oyu don't have that initial cost anymore of hardware and infra and all the things involved in actually proper hosted services.

But what really gets me mad is the small prints in the Terms of Service. Even when you have your "data" stored in let's ssay region EU-WEST-1. By using their service you've granted them permission to "move the data across regions invisible to you". The regular reason would be live migrations from the one hypervisor cluster to another for maintenance. But think about it, that also means they can (and the WILL) move data to the US (goverment) or ANYONE that is willing to pay high enough price to do so. You really think they do that for just "serving a platform"?
