Made a little USB condom for @linuxxx - doesn't look too bad I'd say 🙂

    Is it sturdy enough?

Oh and did you short the 2 data pins on the output side?
  • 4
@epse reasonably sturdy, I used some hot glue to fill the gaps between the plug and socket. Without too much abuse it should hold up ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ but it's really little more than a proto so I can't tell for sure.

Edit: as for the data lines, no I just cut them off. Gotta play safe with the chargers in public transit vehicles, they probably cheaped out on them a lot. So it can't be assumed that they're able to handle 1A reliably.

    Oohh that looks good!

Nice :) @epse What would be the benefit of shorting them?

@ScriptCoded USB 2.0 identifies devices that can deliver more than 500mA by shorting the data pins on the supplier side, otherwise the drain will never pull over 500mA. If you always short the data pins though, you risk a device trying to pull more than the source can deliver and breaking the source.

Hmm you could make a 3D printed case around it. I would be happy to print it if I get dimensions :)

@Codex404 for now this project is finished but in the future I'll keep it in mind :D
@ScriptCoded basically what @epse said, the USB 2.0 spec only requires power supplies to be able to deliver 500mA, i.e. 1A or anything above is not part of the specification (1A is required for USB 3.0 however). So you can reasonably assume that any USB port won't be fried at 500mA, and *most chargers* should be able to do 1A. But not all of them.. and I don't trust government agencies like public transit companies to do that right, or to spend a single penny more on it if they can get away with it. And it made my build easier :P

@epse @Condor Haha, okay :) Our busses says 1A, but I guess I should trust that

You need to drink a little more, your hands look dehydrated as fuck.

    Ship it!

@karma I doubt that I'll get the address though 😛 but it'd be a great reason to do another devRant meetup 😁

Your left fingerprint looks okay. Now I just need to get my hands on your biometrics-protected laptop/phone... ;)

@netikras Normally I hate how SyberiaOS for fajita still doesn't have fingerprint support merged in but that might be for the best :P

    What is the diagram?

@Gregozor2121 5v to 5v, ground to ground, data lines unconnected.. nothing special ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
