Once again, Ubuntu == Garbage

    Agreed.

    But it’s a handy test bed for the debian maintainers, so they know what direction to avoid and understand how shitty things can get.

    It’s like being able to look into a mirror and see a version of you that’s addicted to meth. You are less likely to do meth if you can see the potential outcome.

    So don’t do meth, or Ubuntu

    @-red I'm not assigning garbage to Ubuntu (I think they already got enough to handle) it is an evaluation, that returns true in most of the environments
  • 2
    I don't think it's garbage. I just think it's headed in a direction(Gnome) that I don't like.

    What’s so bad about it? Still new to using Linux so forgive the ignorance.

    @Bubbles I could spend days, months or years (basing on the exhaustiveness degree requested) complaining about the inexcusable defects of Ubuntu, if you are new to it here's my quick advice: drop it in favour of an os designed to make your life easier instead of the opposite, maybe it won't be able to attend its purpose (windows) but at least it wasn't built with the exact intent of busting your balls..

    @Manjia I personally like Kali

    @Bubbles I don't know it.. is it like an Aztec divinity or something? XD
  • 2
    It’s a distro geared towards cyber security

    @Manjia

    It's named for a Hindu goddess.
  • 1
    It's not. Its latest release is just awesome. Why would you even say that? It's a distro with user-friendly tooling.

    @Bubbles I don’t use Kali, but I do use the Kali kernel that was built for the rpi0. The performance improvement is worth it, much better than the stock raspbian kernel

    Works for me so pretty fuckin good ya know

    Ubuntu desktop? Yes
    Ubuntu server? No

    @Plasticnova oh really? I was wondering about it. Would you recommend it over Raspbian?
  • 0
    @Bubbles I still use raspbian, just with that kernel from kali (https://re4son-kernel.com/re4son-pi...)

    @Plasticnova oh that’s cool

    I understand, once a file responsible for DNS routing got corrupted. I couldn't do anything but re-installing Ubuntu again.

    Although it generally works well for me (or in my case Kubuntu), I can't stand gnome for desktops! (Which is why I use Kubuntu which has the KDE Plasma DE)

    @Manija any distro you prefer? For me Mint magically works on nearly all hardware I've tried. (although that is ubuntu based as well)

    (for future reference, tags are CSV, and "rant" tag is auto-added when you hit the "Rant/Story" button.)

    Ubuntu is kinda bloated, as they seem to install ALL the packages on install, therefore everything's slow as shit.

    Just run stock Debian with Ubuntu and Kali repos (Kali with lower prio as their kernel packages have been fucked recently, atl the i386 ones)
