Safari refuses to load images on some websites lately.

I thought about resetting the browser / clearing the cache, but this will also result in millions of shitty privacy policy popups bugging me for months.

Honestly, I'm not quite sure if I prefer a broken browser, or useless shit I don't care for... :/

    I know you're not looking for people saying not to use Safari, and that you'd like some advice on making Safari work but Jesus Christ, don't use Safari!

    @bahua don't worry. I don't look for solutions and I expected these responses ;).

    I know Safari is not the best browser, but imho the most beautiful while still being pretty fast, and this matters more to me. But maybe it's finally time to switch to an ugly but at least functioning browser...

    That's because of WebP pictures, the replacement format for JPEG and PNG. All the browsers support it (even Edge), except Safari. Most websites including 9gag already use that format. Gatsby solves that problem by falling back to JPEG on Safari

    Opera GX is quite cool

    @Ranchu Just looked it up... Haha 😂

    @bartmr And so does other frameworks. Or you fix it yourself ;)

    @bartmr That's what the "picture" tag is for, after all, so that unmaintained legacy browsers like IE and Safari also get images as JPEG.

    Fun fact for Apple users: WebP can cut down the file size by 40-50% with similar quality, I've tested that myself. The majority of data on websites is from images. Apple's decision not to support WebP translates directly into gobbled up data volume and shorter battery life.

    But Apple doesn't care about its users. Let them drown in shit just so that Apple doesn't have to use open source code that came from Google.
