What the fuck did she do to deserve that????

It's time someone acknowledge a developer/techie as a person of the year.

There was automation, spaceX and many more advancement in the field of technology. Why does it feel like technology is always taken for granted.

Not to sound to sexist with that comment. But, living in Sweden (one of the most developed country) and telling the world leaders go fuck themselves is not an achievement.

You misunderstand the "Person of the Year" title. It only means the person or thing (yes, object can be chosen) that had the most impact (i.e. made people talk) this year.

Just for your information, there have been far more controversial choices:

"Time magazine points out that controversial figures such as Adolf Hitler (1938), Joseph Stalin (1939 and 1942), Nikita Khrushchev (1957) and Ayatollah Khomeini (1979) have also been granted the title for their impacts."

Do not also forget that the "Time" is an American magazine. As such, it has the same bias as the general population.

@electrineer going to school instead of skipping it. She's an Antifa member and I was never in a extremist group. Just some possibilities. And pleas don't tell me you think she deserves any of the political pandering she receives for being a girl, young, mentally ill (depression), not able to defend her viewpoints in discussions (selectivmutism) and being on the spectrum.

@Jilano She wasn't the most talked about person of the year though. As much as I dislike the guy, it was definitely Trump. The entire world was talking about him from start to finish this whole year. Greta Thunberg really only showed up way late into the year in terms of highly talked about.

Greta Thunberg had certainly more media coverage this year than SpaceX, so I don't even understand that argument.

Also, I guess we all tell our political leadership to go fuck themselves all the time, right, but none of us does so right in front of them in the UN assembly or the World Economic Forum in Davos.

What she did, you asked? Well everything that is necessary to actually speak out right IN these heavily guarded gatherings.

Given how many 16 year olds with bad school attendance did NOT speak in these meetings, I'd guess that just not attending school isn't quite sufficient to get there.

Also the FFF demonstrations with millions of people - who started that? I'd call that influential. Whether it makes sense or not is irrelevant, it's influential either way.

No, what I really dislike about the situation is how she and espacially her conditions are abused for clicks, political gain and as a shild from criticism.
Everithing you say is not criticism but a attack on her disabilities. She has no idea about caus and effect of climate change and certainly her only solution is socialism, because, and she addmited it, it's not about the climate, it is about racism, sexism and all that stuff.
Other people tell her these things and her selectivmutism does not even let her hear counterarguments.
It is sad that we fall back to "think of the children" in a science based debate. And then they use those "vulnerable children" for political gain and give them depression in the process. Very supportive of them.

@p100sch She doesn't have to have a firm grasp on climate cause and effect stuff. That's what we have fucking SCIENTISTS for. The thing is that these scientists are IGNORED.

So either we have a total fraud going on like in these gender pseudo sciences and that's why these scientists are being ignored, or we are going to have a big problem.

@Fast-Nop There was a few guys that did fake studies to see how hard it was to get studies into papers. They found that if they followed a pattern of PC related content they could get ANYTHING published. As long as the studies hit the talking points for gender, sexism, or any other in vogue stuff then they got accepted. One of the studies was about sexual tendencies related to park dog humping:

But the question is: is that the same for climate science? Because Greta is just saying what nearly 100% of climate scientists say their data support.

Nobody here seems to have heard of the HK protestors. Time magazine opened up for people to vote who should be person of the year. HK protestors was going very strong.

But...

Time magazine has been bought by Salesforce, who wants to enter the China market. They don't want to upset China. So there you go, the climate change girl got it.

@Demolishun Only that the yellow jackets in France had nothing to do with Fridays for Future. On the contrary, they started over tax increases on fossile fuels - and not 10 years ago, but in November 2018.

On the other hand, Greta first dropped school attendence because of climate stuff in August 2018.
