C0D4682115yOne day... just one day people will stop using it 😟
#2020Resolutions -> build a wordpress killer, who's in? -
C0D4682115y@bettoisc I can blame wordpress for being cold hearted. I moved on years ago and never looked back.
-
@C0D4 I evaluated that digital landfill some years ago and found the whole tech stack so batshit crazy that my engineering gut feeling told me not to trust it. In hindsight, that was a 20/20.

C0D4682115y@bettoisc cold to talk?
I'm sure it's missing something in translation.
@Fast-Nop I did early in my career some wordpress sites and it was a jungle of a disaster, it takes php - which is already difficult to wield correctly, and makes a shit show out of it - and that's out of the box.
From there you have plugin and theme devs - well devs a inaccurate word - who shouldn't be doing what they are doing by any standards.
I gave up with it, and then woocommerce showed up, and well
that was enough to never return to that mess.
Now for a simple website cms, where dev work isn't really needed, I don't mind throwing someone onto it, but the moment they want to customise the crap out of it , I'll use something like ModX or OctoberCms depending on how tech savvy the intended admin is. -
@C0D4 Plus that SSGs are a very good option for sites that are rather informational than interactive.
-
C0D4682115y@Fast-Nop they are awesome for something that really doesn't need any work, and you don't look under the hood.... that bits important, A devs nightmare if you go looking though.
-
@C0D4 Well yeah if using a weird templating language like Hugo, or some crappy Markdown editing with no easy control over the actual output, than it can derail quickly.
-
@C0D4 No it's not. But it's free for a single admin account. You need to pay for multiple admin accounts...

@DavinaLeong Relying on vendor lock-in doesn't sound like a good strategy when there are viable open source alternatives. Also, the quality of the source code cannot be easily estimated.
-
-
@DavinaLeong Ah that took me a bit to understand. So the source code is publicly visible, however it isn't open source because it is not under an open source licence.
That leaves still the licence vendor lock-in where a fork is not even theoretically possible in case the company goes down or discontinues the product.
On the upside, they have paying customers and won't want to lose them with stupid changes.
No way!!! a theme update messed up all my work in a WordPress plugin, I need a way to inherit a theme plugin and edit it using a child plugin, but no, WordPress is completely a piece of shit!!
ps: Grammarly says this rant sounds optimistic.
