stop68025ywhy do you do it?! They must provide you with the access. If they wont give you access, you have no obligation to do this.
-
crisz81915yAre you sure they're blocking them and you don't need just to configure your proxy?
Because it just looks like that. Go configure your proxy -
Just buy a VPN subscription, on company expanse, and use that from the office.
Or just spin up an AWS instance on the company account. -
vane110525yMaybe they want you to make npm to mp4, h264 encoder / decoder and upload packages to porn sites ?
-
@magicMirror Circumventing company security measures at company's expense is a sure way to get fired. (even if their security measures are stupid)
-
@gronostaj No, it is not.
1. company requires you to use an online resource.
2. company firewall blocks said resource.
3. You have informed the company IT, and your boss of the problem.
4. Your boss can't push the solution forward.
5 You are then using another of the company resources to solve the issue, until IT gets off thier asses.
If you are fired in this case then - you are better off in more then one way. One, you can get compensation for wrongfull termination, and second, your next job will prb be better. Just make sure you documented your emails. -
@frankot I have. They don't give a shit and they're too dumb to do anything about it.
-
@gronostaj I would literally pay to see some dumb fuck to try firing me for using mobile data to fetch npm modules when half the fucks next to me spend half their day watching YouTube. Dw I know what I'm doing
-
So update
I yelled at the security guy again. He asked me to use my mobile internet.
I think I'll use it for job hunting -
ebrithil1595yDocument your request with why you need this access (ie email) and if they still refuse just stop working.
If someone asks why you’re not doing shit just forward the mail exchange and watch the show
Thats what i would do -
@hashedram Sounds like a lot of poor management but you might be able to get a company phone and phone plan out of this...or push to have them pay for your data being used for their company work. I would start looking for another job though...that's fucked up.
-
If you're not going to escalate it with the company then just use a VPN.
Don't risk yourself by using your own data on corporate tasks, you could get in trouble down the line. -
Just watch porn and if somebody complains say „That’s the closest work related thing I can access“
-
irene33915yConfigure proxy. Figure out the corporate proxy settings and add them to npm. Most stuff in npm is hosted on github. Your company probably doesn’t block github and if you aren’t getting at least half of it, it is probably a proxy issue not a firewall issue.
-
angelicas12yyou can buy-proxy https://proxys.io/en PROXYS.IO . these proxies can be used for a variety of purposes, from web scraping to social media management to online advertising.
List of things that my fucking corporate proxy blocks
* Maven
* The NPM registry
* Github
List of things that aren't blocked
* Google drive
* Twitter
* Porn
Half my mobile data is burned away by NPM sinkholes. Fuck this place.
