Does anyone else fantasize about giving up programming and go live in a jungle or doing other things that require more physical effort?

I've been learning carpentry, farming, DIY power generation etc. The goal is to be self-sufficient and go live in a fucking jungle someday. Or legally buy some cheap land far from the city and automate the shit out of it. No wait, I'll just live there as a normal farmer and write code if I feel nostalgic or something.

I think anyone other than me could have expressed that better.

    @Voxera I wish I had your brain.

    I live it day in and day out. The only thing I wish I could quit is writing code I don't care about.

    Trust me, you dont want to live fully off land. Living off your physical labor is a lot harder than coding.

    Having a small garden is fine, but dont fool yourself about running a full farm.

    @SHA-16384 Yes and there will be laws against turning it into a cult.

    @SevenDeadlyBugs
    I've been trying to do the same for the last 5 years, but I'm too disorganized and bipolar stick with one plan.

    @Quirinus Automating some of the farming work?

    Heh, unlikely to happen, but I've definitely considered it. I'd love to be one of these "fix/do anything" guys in particular. Yaknow, the sort that can grab a knife and a clapped out 4x4, wander around for a bit and (a few hours later) have a few pots made, a survival shelter, and fixed the 4x4 from some random bird droppings.

    I sometimes pretend I'm doing that while fixing obscure bugs. "Hah, get in there, I just bodged that sod with some bird dung, and now that spark plug is good as new."

    😂

    I know, embarrassing ridiculous fantasies eh. Good job this site is anonymous.

    @AshesOfTheSun small farms are harder to automate, and automation is expensive, so it's mostly used on big farms and land.

    Even if you automate things, it's still a lot of work, as there's lots of things that are not automated, and there's maintenance.

    A garden is fine for regular people, there's lots of work, some of it is relaxing, some is hard. You get to see it grow, and eat the product of the work of your hands, enjoy the process. Going bigger than that will make your life worse, and living fully off the land is hard work.

    Ah, I was thinking about it in days of crisis: get the f***ing out of my country, afford self-governed place. When I think more about it, unknown seems really tempting though. Because then I simply will get tired of myself.

    @AlmondSauce @Quirinus Holy shit! I know now what you meant. Tried to make vertical garden and did some general home improvement stuff. Almost gave up while sawing wood manually. Maybe if I lived in the countryside mt whole life I could do it. Years of mouse/keyboard interfacing has turned me into a humanoid peripheral. I won't be surprised if my great great grandchildren are born legless. Gotta keep working.
