I’m self employed, but do like to browse available positions from time to time. There have been occasions where I’ve been tempted to reach out, but have zero desire to put a resume together that covers 24 years of experience. -
It's a pain in the ass that's only necessary because of stone-age hiring processes

SomeNone7115yWhile the people working in HR these days do most things by e-mail and company portals, in the end they still want to be able to print out a CV to hold a paper in hand, and discuss it in the company while sitting in a meeting room.

It will be fine until Linked-In decides to not be politically neutral. Most social networks are starting to take stands on politics. I don't want to be a part of that and I don't want it to used to decide where I work.

drewbie8065y@SomeNone And do that, I say go to LinkedIn and print out the dedicated resume. I'm able to export my LinkedIn as a resume. I'm sure HR can do that as well.

@rutee07 has it right - sending specific CVs allows you to tailor your application to the particular company. That's rather important imho, it can be the difference between an interview or not.

@AlmondSauce I recently went from controls engineer to software developer. I had to gear my resume to reflect my desire to focus on programming rather than industrial controls. At the same time I interviewed for controls engineer jobs at the same time. Different resumes.

True story: Last job I got, I sent the hiring manager the "printable" view from my Stack Overflow jobs profile. It worked, and they even complimented the format it was in!
At this point in tech, what's the point of sending a company your typed resume instead of just a link to your LinkedIn?
