That's the game now. You get an easy, state-funded undergrad from wherever you come from, have greedy American schools upgrade that degree with a no-fail master's program, potentially do work study for your PHD. Work in the US for 4 years to pay it off (assuming you didn't exercise the 17 month between semester work clause on the educational visa), then bounce to a senior position elsewhere if you cant manage to get long term employment in the US. It's poisoning the job market.

mghrist895y@SortOfTested makes it lovely for folks in the US like myself, who have to pay crazy $$$ for undergrad degrees and then deal with a double-standard applied to admissions into post-grad studies because of the difference in funding.
a lot of very sharp elbows, with the townies doing the most work for the least reward -
mghrist895yI read apcahe as AppCache :)
If you're lucky his laziness will make him put less effort into screwing up.
One of the projects I'm working on requires some PHP and more, and 7 months ago we got a new guy that I handed a few basic tasks to. he managed to completely break everything. He wouldn't even follow instructions like "don't randomly copy-paste function calls into HTML tags in the production instance"
eventually he got too lazy to even pretend to be trying and the problem solved itself. -
@mghrist
Tell me about it. My undergrad alone was $60k. Yet, I routinely end up reporting to assholes 3-4 years younger than me who came here on H1b, put in 5 years "programming," before moving to management.
There's no future in tech for Americans anymore. We're disadvantaged structurally here, and there's plenty of multinational corps willing to exploit that. -
mghrist895y@SortOfTested the irony is you could throw a dart at a map and hit a country that has the same problem in a different way.
we need to program into 'management!' -
@mr-user
The same way Kshama Sawant got a PhD in economics with what would barely pass muster as a high school term paper on the elderly workforce in rural areas: her primary reviewer was also the professor sponsoring her work study and a family friend. -

It is sad to see that the university education is being de-value because of a person like that.I don't have much trust in university education but I got to have some degree for my employment (even though I can do projects before attending university). What I am most sad about your story is for people who have to take the a lot of loans for their education and can't find employment because their university is so devalue that nobody hire them after they finish their education.

So this PHD fresh graduate work in our department for a year boast about how professional a PHP developer he is. Today, he , my the other 2 co-worker and I have to submit the project, He technically "Taichi" his responsibility away and said he can't do this and that. Expect we do everything for him. What is more sad, is as a PHP as he boasted, He dont even know how to use Xampp, apcahe.
Our CMS messed up because of him, Server are F***ed , he keep sabotaging our source code that works, and made one of my coworker cried due the stress he given. He keep telling us that how professional he is, how suck we are. Ironically, he as a professional , he can't even do the basics like even know echo" something "; can also printf("something"); in PHP. He said he studied in US and from Jordan. I know that people like me only have Olevel in Malaysia. So dont show off to me a foreign certification that can't even help you to complete the job.
I hope this project can be complete without this guy. All show and no go. Where's the team work tho?
