How do you guys prevent yourself from overworking? With deadline pressures I feel like it is very easy to work more than your regular 8 hours

    I dont think I've ever managed to not overwork myself.

    There are days which requires more than 8 hours there are those which don't. On those latter ones, I sleep.

    What's good with IT work is wfh are possible. In this time of COVID and with the future only going to use more tech, this is a stable job to have.

    I say myself, "You have a Kdrama to watch" :D

    Overwork is my default. If 10+ hour days aren't SOP for you, you're probably not going to last in this career. You won't be able to keep up with the learning curve.

    @M1sf3t
    Hence SOP? Thats the baseline.

    Overworking is standard. There is just too much to do. My dad is seeing me work for the first time and he is always genuinely concerned. Yesterday he walked in on me "looking" at the TV and was so glad I wasn't working he didn't even ask for the remote.

    It's a give and take issue.
    You overwork some days, and you underwork others, but I'm pretty sure the over work hours add up to be higher.

    @molaram well I can't say I was watching coz I have no idea what happened in the movie but admittedly, my eyes were on the TV for a bit... So yeah, looking.

    Have a pet project.

    @M1sf3t but it's so fun! 😅

    @M1sf3t Yes. But you would be working for yourself.
  • 3
    I enjoy doing that even if it's work related or my own side project

    I consider it over work when I'm being told to do things that doesn't comply with me.

    @Kashmir
    No one said you have to study x hours to git gud. I said you have to study to keep up with tech, on top of your job. Your job is at least 8 hours a day, and the industry moves constantly. At a certain point the amount time you have to put in is physics.

    Music would be a comparable analogy if all the instruments fundamentally changed every 18 months.

    Just Ctrl + C at the end of the day bro. SIGKIL the hell out of whatever you were doing and hope for the best tomorrow. If they fire you? well fuck them! You are hobodev now dude! No rent, no taxes. Scavenge for a pentium II and a cathodic ray monitor somewhere and reprogram Prince of Persia for DOS man. You dont need nobody bruh!

    Holy fuck, I just realized I've been at my living room desk so long I have a layer of dust on me along with some vines growing up my legs! Seriously though, it's easy to fuck up NOT overworking doing this shit, especially when you love it

    @klutch agree, when you love your work time does not exist. Although its nice to also be paid well.

    I've never been paid a dime up until this point, hoping that'll change soon I'm getting there!!
    You nailed it though!
