short one.

So my CS course is full of people who can't write a fucking for loop (I shit you not) after more than half a year.
And then there's those that don't know what a return type is.

So I asked them once, after they stated that the course sucks, why they even chose it in the first place.
Freely translated it would be:

"I dunno, I thought we'd be doing cool hacker stuff in here..."

At that point I just wanted to jump out of the window.

I tutored computer science part-time while I was in college. It was hell. So many people didn't actually want to learn computer science and just wanted to get to the part when they can make video games. I even had a student tell me, "I don't care about all this math stuff. I just want to make games."

And yes, I did check to make sure he wanted to be a game developer who writes code and not some other non-technical career in the game industry.

That's what I'm thinking, they want to skip the basics, and go from zero to hero (=hacker) in an instant. Some people will never understand why the world doesn't work that way.

@SomeNone because they failed to learn one of the core lessons in life: there's very little magic in the world, and none of it substitutes for luck and diligence.
