I've been replaced twice by wix and squarespace. This is pretty soul-crushing. Both were free lance jobs. Where the user got impatient and insisted that I make constant changes on the fly. I'm relatively new and still in school.

Has anyone else been replaced by a website generator? How do you rebound/recover?

Well I suppose on the plus your doing better than Wix and Squarespace right now, they both use DYN for their DNS and are down

Politely let them know that you'll be available to finish their real website in 6 months when they realise the crap they built isn't making them any sales... Make sure you put up your hourly rate before they come back to you.

Learn more about customizing themes, then you're using your dev chops and giving them a platform they can upkeep without pestering you every time they want to add a page.

Most places have "experts" or affiliates that they list as resources, so you can even get clients by being listed in those directories!

@humanbonsai do you happen to have a list of sample themes?

@hamish thanks for the kind words. I'll definitely keep at it 👍

@slushy So the themes are straightforward, you should be able to find them by going to the squarespace site, but here is the developer information and registration page:
