Is it just me sleeping 10+ hours in this covid times and still having problems getting out of bed and concentrating? 🤔

    The "Early Morning Anxiety" should be the name of a newspaper delivered to anxious people in the morning, just to get them out of the bed with motivational quotes and shit.

    Nah, that's just normal.

    @electrineer good to know!

    Highly relatable. It's the spring fever.

    I'm super tired all the time and just want to sleep.

    Maybe you just need coffee.

    @mr-user I wish there was someone who would bring me coffee 😞 #covidTimes

    Or you could set up an alarm. As soon as alarm ring take a shower or open your curtain for sunlight

    @mr-user oh my sweet November child...
    I sleep with curtains open, two alarms, and snooze protection. Yet, I manage to get up, defuse all alarms, and go back to sleep without being completely awake.

    Guys, It's not a normal sleep pattern for me, let's say it out loud once at least. I have no problems sleeping normal hours and with good quality while in vacation, back in high school, and before I became friends with anxiety.

    Have you tried breaking your routine or rearrange your place? It may spark your mind to the new changes and give you more energy.
  • 2
    @iamai that's genuinely a great idea, but I can't. Everything here is fixed, unless I start sleeping on the ground. #StudentLyfe

    When I started having similar issues it really did help to change the routines, took me a while to figure out. A temporary solution is to "hide" your alarm such that you have to wake up. Still works for me if I have to survive on a few hours of sleep.

    It's depression. Taking Wellbutrin again has seemed to help a lot
  • 2
    @anolis "situational depression" some would say. It goes away as soon as the situation changes but yeah.
  • 1
    Yea idk if I'll keep taking em after the situation is over but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ better than feeling like shit and risking getting fired for no productivity cause no motivation to code :<
  • 2
    @anolis tempting... I'd do that when I can bring myself to see a doc.

    @NoMad

    My "sleep hygiene" is terrible. No screen before bed my ass... I tried for a horrific month, but I just can not fall asleep without some cartoon softly playing on TV. Sleep timer? As soon as it switches off, I jump straight up in bed "WHY IS IT SO SILENT I CAN'T SLEEP LIKE THIS".

    Then eventually I do fall into a coma and can easily stay between the sheets until noon the next day -- even if I went to bed at midnight.

    It's not even an "I'm still tired I need more sleep" thing, it's more that my brain seems reluctant to change in either direction. It's not like I'll be groggy all day if someone shocks me out of bed at 8AM.

    I've accepted it for the most part. Work knows they should not contact me before 10AM.

    But, there are situations where the world just doesn't budge to your requirements.

    My trick is to drink half a liter of warm, de/non-caffeinated beverage, like herbal tea, before bed.

    Your bladder will wake you after 7-8 hours.

    @NoMad

    You could use alarm app which require you to solve complex math equation in order to defuse it.
  • 0
    @mr-user this works for me pretty well but I've learnt to solve them the easiest way

    @electrineer

    Maybe it not complex enough. You could not solve PI multiplication divided by sigma with your half awake brain.

    @mr-user had it. Woke up, uninstalled it and went back to sleep. 😐 (in a semi-conscious condition, that is)

    @NoMad You are a tough opponents. Maybe you should automate your air-con to turn off when it reach at specific time (human beings cannot sleep if it become too hot) or you should let your bladder do your waking up as @bittersweet have suggest.

    On funny note it is a business opportunities,you found a problem , solve it and make money out of it. If you know mechanical engineering,you can design a machine which throw a bucket of cold water onto you or let out a certain smell which you hate to wake you up.

    @mr-user 1. Bladder takes about two hours. And I don't sleep in with full bladder.
    2. Ain't got no aircon. Northern Europe doesn't do aircon. (which is frustrating now given global warming)

    It really isn't about sleep itself. It's about the stress, anxiety and depression building up. If I manage that, I can manage anything. But then covid doesn't help the least bit.

    Point of this rant tho, was to see if others have got it too. Cuz I was feeling like I was the only one failing at a simple task of sleeping. 😬 #insecurities

    @mr-user I do however agree with some of stuff he said. Herbal tea helps a bit.

    But as he points it out, that style is his norm. It is not mine. I want to go back to my norm. 🙁

    @NoMad Your organism got used to curtian lights, and yet you wake up tired. Talk about misfortune

    @NoMad Let me help you with your depression (Disclaimer : I am not a doctor and not in any medicinal profession so take my word with a grain of salt)

    First you have to know that nothing is eternal no matter how good or how bad it is. The thing called "covid" will pass,it is just a matter of time.

    Secondly try to mediate correctly before sleeping or while you are sleeping. How to correctly mediate?
  • 2
    1) Close your eyes

    2) Put your body in whatever position you are comfortable in (common myth: you don't have to sit uptight,you just need to be comfortable)

    3) Regulate your breathing (Easier to do it is to know the inhale and exhale)

    4) If you do the step 3 correctly, you will notice your body in depth (you will notice that small pain across your body,itches across your body,--etc)|

    5) Try to do it for at least 3 minute (you can do it for longer if you wanted)

    Mediating for medical reason is to calm your mind,there are also spiritual reason for it but I am not going to bore you with it (tag me if you are interested in it)

    I am from a religion where mediating is recommended practice so I can advise you on mediating correctly. There are logical reason for mediating but most people just focuses on spiritual one.
