Can we ban SO links please? Or at least add something to filter out posts with those links? Not a day goes by without someone copy-pasting their SO questions here, and it's getting fucking annoying.

    Closed: Opinion Based

    Honestly, it doesn't seem like there are many of those. Do you have some examples of these?

    @Demolishun Let's see how far back DevRant api works...
    https://devrant.com/rants/2521361
    https://devrant.com/rants/2518408
    https://devrant.com/rants/2515758
    https://devrant.com/rants/2504896
    https://devrant.com/rants/2495577
    https://devrant.com/rants/2490373

    That's from the last 500 rants (less than a week's worth), and there were weeks with way more such rants.

    @hitko The big problem would be categorizing. If there was a category that people knew would be ignored, then why use that category? Those don't look all that bad though. People are encouraged to ask questions here. Why turn away people from learning because they don't know anything?

    What we really should be scrubbing are the quora-style vague/2 word rants. Thankfully those don't last long. SNR is generally pretty strong here.

    @hitko look if you're an active member of devRant and participate with delightful rants i don't see any problem if you ask a question once in a while.

    In most cases those questions aren't about "help i can't solve bug x" but rather "hey guys how do you set up x and what was your experience?" And heck! a SO link question with a super edge case should have space here from time to time. devRant is about devLife and beeing in a pickle from time to time is part of devLive. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿงก

    @heyheni this!

    if a green dot adds a link I suspect it's homework, advertising, or some useless meme they didn't upload, sorry legit green dots but... spammers will be spammers.

    If a user with 2k+ updoots posts a link or asks a dumb question, it's probably the communal opinion on X, rather then "how do I do X"

    @hitko
    1) ooh a link so far down the bottom of the meme style post, I would never of finished reading anyway.

    2) a discussion, does this really count?

    3) green dot found us, but didn't find google... I'll give you that one... there's a bot for that ๐Ÿ˜‰

    4) this belongs on SO

    5) this is probably already on SO ๐Ÿ˜…

    6) debatable - it's a cry for help when going insane.

    @M1sf3t
    But... Then we'd be SO ๐Ÿ’€
  • 2
    @M1sf3t the first green dot post can't contain a link anymore, I learnt that the hard way,.

    But maybe something like they reach 100++ (for example) also to reduce spam / meme bs, prevent images as well.... but when you think about it,
    That starts a system like SO has which I despise ๐Ÿ˜…

    updots matter...

    it's prolly because people still think SO is a decent place to go for help and then when they're practically booted off the platform they come to a place known to help people...?
