tiksn608yWhat is the main difference? What can I do on it? I do not think that there is many programs for this OS.
-
@tiksn You can do on it the same as on every other Linux distro.
For me the main difference is that it runs smoothly and looks much nicer than most other distros out there. -
I'll never understand these MacOS-like docks. Why, why would you waste so many pixels, especially vertical ones, to show oversized buttons? And the pixels on the side of the dock, what's with THAT?? They only ever get to... display small bits of your wallpaper??
-
(vertical pixels: I mean that as a programmer I want to see as many LOC as possible, so wasting vertical space is worse than wasting horizontal space... Unless wasting horizontal space means I can't have three code files side by side)
-
@Gauthier The dock disappears when it overlaps with windows. It only "wastes" space when there is space available.
-
@deadlyRants aaaah! That's great! Ubuntu... 12.04 had that, I think. Then they removed it :/
(I don't care anymore, ditched first the bar altogether, then Unity) -
tahnik387588yUnfortunately it's quite buggy and a bit backdated. I used it for over 6 months but eventually it got more buggy. The interface is really nice tho
-
@deadlyRants never heard of it. Why is it so special? How does it make it any better agains my linux mint that uses really small resources and makes my pc run super smooth?
-
@SweetHuman i am asking what does eOS offer more or better? Is it less problems? Life easier? Does is use a lot of hdd space? Will it make coding and everything else better?
-
@SweetHuman So far I've had bad luck with most distros I've tried, many just started to break over time on my machines.
And elementaryOS is one of the few which ran on my device for longer periods and look good.
Well, openSuse runs really stable too but it doesn't feel as snappy. So I use openSuse for the desktop and elementary on my laptop and everything just works. -
coookie26128yTo all the people asking what does it do, well, uh nothing special. It's just a pretty Ubuntu which looks like macOS. I haven't noticed any perf gains or longer battery or anything.
-
@deadlyRants i've been using mint for quite some time now and it works well but i don't feel like it's perfect or right for me. I keep coming back to windows. I dual boo.
-
eOS is minimalistic and snappy, but I found it really, really buggy. Even simple things like the application menu crashed often
-
coookie26128yWith so many people complaining about it being buggy i consider myself lucky to have it working flawlessly on both my laptops.
