Not a rant but I've been wanting to do this for a while now. Added some rgb mood lighting to my desk that's connected to a Raspberry Pi. Making a web interface next to change colors/set modes remotely :D

It'd be awesome if the colours change based on what's on the screen.

I have actually a couple of modes I'm busy with:

- change based on temp outside
- breathing mode
- brightness adjusted by how loud music is playing
- 3x 10K potentiometers to adjust the rgb values manually in the desk

your suggestiong and sampling the background color from desktop like the first post suggested is also awesome, will definitely implement them.
