@uyouthe I bought dock for my laptop and while I was installing windows drivers for ethernet, the whole system just crashed. Looks like GPU driver or something like that. It happened twice, before the installation finished successfully. Linux is using as ethernet driver cdc_ether by default, which crashes my whole local network when I put my laptop to sleep. Realtek drivers supports only Linux <= 5.6. Fucking nice.

Realtek sucks on Linux. I wasted two days getting their USB WiFi dongle to work, finding it doesn't support AP mode with Linux drivers. It works on Windows but not Linux. Realtek doesn't support modern USB WiFi chipsets with in-kernel drivers. Community developers created some WiFi 5 chipset support in 2023, not Realtek. They make non-compliant drivers without releasing source code or accepting reports. Vendors release drivers that don't keep up with kernel updates. These drivers aren't in the Linux kernel due to non-compliance and lack of documentation. Out-of-kernel drivers aren't recommended for desktop distros. My tests show Mediatek/Ralink and Atheros chipsets work better, with most distros supporting WPA3. Realtek's WiFi 5 driver development stopped in mid-2023, leaving many products as dead-ends.
