@deadlyRants can you though, like realistically?
My impression was that nearly every key on my keyboard is bound in (neo)vim, and rebinding would mean rebinding half they functions even if I barely use them -
@LotsOfCaffeine I don't see why you can't swap them around a bit, although in some cases it might be trickier than in others.
Vim lets you use as many layers of keybindings as you want, so it's definitely not gonna fail because of missing free keys. -
bahua129044yI mean, both vim and neovim also support using the arrow keys, by default, too. Is that unintuitive?
-
@deadlyRants that'll break all the keys that are there by default, not worth the hassle imo
@bahua I think they do, but doesn't that defeat the purpose of a modal text editor? Having to go from the letter keys to the arrow keys constantly
I'm still considering making a completely custom setup, not necessarily with vim but in general. -
I have keyboards with no arrow keys, and I like not having to move my wrists while typing.
The bright side for you, is you can turn it off. -
@SortOfTested keyboards without arrow keys?
I thought no numpad was bad but damn.
I don't use any keyboard that isn't "100%" or whatever that's called -
@SortOfTested I would have built my own keyboard already if most of the PCBs I saw were only for 60-80% key boards :/
-
@LotsOfCaffeine
Why would you build a full size keyboard when there are many full-spec commercially available options with the same parts? -
@SortOfTested I just wanted to build one out of boredom and curiousity
I have a cherry mx board 3, which still works fine after I think 5 years now -
@LotsOfCaffeine
Those are rated for 50M presses. If going to be around a lot longer if you don't intentionally smash it. -
@SortOfTested Yeah it's fairly long lasting. I'm impressed the labels on the keys have survived
-
@LotsOfCaffeine
Always buy PBT caps with etched labels and that will never be a problem.
