drRoss48808yWhen people say they use Linux, it generally means "I use a Linux BASED operating system".
-
Yeah, I think the majority of people who have the technical capacity to use a Linux based system know that already.
Also, does it really matter that much? Saying "I use Linux" is a hell of a lot easier than saying "I Kali Linux which is an operating system built on Unbunu Linux, which in turn is built around the GNU/Linux framework" -
blegh698y@drRoss somehow generally accepted but made you lose the context in a conversation.
one person claims "linux shit in this", while other claims "i use linux and fine with it". now one of them might use mint and the other might (accidentally?) installing bare gentoo.
@wolfman well, when i say Linux, i spesifically refer to the kernel. -
I always use distro names. When non-Linux people hear the word Linux, they usually stop listening. When I say I use Arch Plasma and send a screenshot, even the mac people are impressed.
-
People don't like using horrible names.
I'm a developer which means I loath being wrong. I put in an amazing amount of time and effort so I don't have to be.
Every time I'm about to say "Linux" that little "well actually" voice pops up in the back of my head only to be answered by another recursively saying "GNU not unix linux"... and I just say "Linux". I'm not saying that shit.
I'd rather be wrong. -
drRoss48808yYeah, no one likes a know it all.
If you were to correct me on correct usage of the name 'Linux' in real life, I'd think you were a twat.

but it cringes me everytime i see rants like "linux this" or "linux that".
now those who does it, do understand that the term "linux" refer to the kernel and not the os in it's entirety, right?
