Whyyyy whyyy can a billion dollar company be the last regarding Kubernetes as a service!! EKS has such a fat ass, damn slow to bootstrap and a pain to manage the lifecycle, while all other clouds even the small ones have figured it out. Can't just get it.

Are you using ECS or Fargate?

@SortOfTested None, AWS EKS. EKS also have the option of using Fargate but not only its more expensive of course, it has its technical limitations. I really don't know why just AWS didn't bought the Kops technology and built EKS around that.
Hell! People are even telling AWS to buy eksctl from Weave since it's what they recommend in their Official docs! Like.. really? Is your own cli so limited that you encourage your clients to use a different tool for your own service?

So you're backing with EC2 hosts, got it.

@yamlbreakfast @SortOfTested yep! And we like it this way. We're just a two infra guys for a ~50 person tech startup so the pace is fast, the budget low and we need to do crazy stuff with the current tech.
We chose EKS just because we don't have time to deal with ETCD backups/DR, whatever and we need that control plane HA.

Pretty much, EKS is just control plane as a service unless you back it with Fargate.

We abstract everything with terraform and don't really have any huge issues with it. Could probably get more horsepower installing it ourselves, but that's just too much effort for little reward.

@SortOfTested we also use Kops for bootstrapping our CICD cluster and the difference is abismal. That's why I rant about EKS. I've also personally tested GKE but hey, they were the first so at least let's give them that benefit. But again!!! Even DO or OVH k8s offering is faster than EKS!!
