The hell, why'd I write an add-on for a system I don't know as well while I could just implement a PHP version easily!?

Even if it is just to fucking prove that this can easily be done in PHP!

I can come up with a few reasons. They mainly involve overview and app landscape/maintainability.

Other than that yeah PHP is often underestimated. I used some nice UNIX socket programming to tie together some stuff people thought could not be done. Also made an SMTP proxy with it. It's still in production.
