I think it has to do with larger norms that directly or indirectly encourage girls / women not to show off their smarts.... and that leads to different expectations and etc.
One of those rules that is often more compiled from other rules / norms. -
With the notable exception of myself, (heh) my wife is the smartest person I know.
In my younger years, when I had more options to take for granted than my old ass would now, I left quite a few women because I found their intellect wanting.
Though I didn't know it was a thing until maybe the last few years, I believe I'm a sapiosexual. -
I agree.
I think the problem is that people mean arrogance when they say „intelligence“..
The loud women are often the arrogant, unhappy feminists, I think that’s where it comes from.
Men are louder anyway so the arrogant cunts don’t stick out that much..
No offence against feminists. Just against the extreme left ones.
Personally I find Intelligent women very attractive. Fuck boobie size, there’s nothing sexier than an intellectual discussion with a women. -
Some men don't like smart women.
Intelligence often translates to ambition and success, and in some cultures and regions it is still expected that the man is the main provider and the woman primarily takes care of the kids. So smart women are threatening these norms.
When I was younger and had actual social life, I did an experiment with my girl friends. When guys came to talk to us I sometimes introduced myself as a student studying for a completely useless humane degree. In those times, guys often asked for my number. When I said I was studying physics and electrical engineering they back off real quick.
I guess impressing a smart woman is a little harder, so some men just avoid it. -
when was smartness linked to mathematics? I think mature and wiser people are smart.
-
@NickyBones
Some men don't for sure... but I always wonder how true / many there are that really don't like smart women.
I suspect lots of women don't like women who seem smart too...
I think the origins / enforcement of these ideas are a lot more mixed even if the story is "men don't like women who" ... women sadly do a good job enforcing that stuff on other women too.
Many moons ago in college I attended an event that talked about media pressure. One talk was about pressure on girls from fashion and various industries.
Then the talk sort of pivoted or summarized about all this pressure put on girls by men's expectations of what they want out of a woman physically .... I couldn't help but wonder "Wait, are straight men really running the fashion industry and they're pushing some agenda there?" I'm not sure that made sense.
I kinda questioned that pivot, but granted it's a topic I'm a bit sensitive about. -
@N00bPancakes I never felt like another girl/woman disliked me because of my intelligence. Maybe I am just not that smart :)
I have a strong feeling that this "cat fight" concept is blown out of proportions - it's just easier to say "well, women treat other women badly, so it's fine if men do it as well".
There are still women that prefer the "old ways" and the "traditional" role of women, and when they try to promote their values, it might seem like they are sabotaging other women.
Fashion industry, when I was young, was mostly dominated by gay men, who chose rail thin models that reflected what they considered beauty. I was always incredibly surprised how fast straight men seem to align their preferences. -
@NickyBones
"I was always incredibly surprised how fast straight men seem to align their preferences."
I'm not convinced that's the case at all. -
@N00bPancakes I've seen my guy friends call some girls fat, and these girls weren't even close to being fat. Even my dad sometimes makes a comment like that, and I'm like what???
When I was a teenager, being skinny definitely helped in getting attention from boys.
I heard today you also need to butt implants. Hard pass. -
@N00bPancakes I was actually considered popular in high school despite being a "freak" just because I was Kate Moss level of skinny.
-
@NickyBones the shift in the "beauty standard" was weirdly quick, though I don't know anyone who was actually into it
It was all over the media but in real life? nah
and same thing now, idk if people are really into the "mainstream". I think my bros just wanna hold hands :/ -
kiki324243yI read the rant. I don’t click. I expect Nicky to be here in the comments.
I click. I’m right. -
@LotsOfCaffeine I honestly see regular guys chase similar look "goals". Like alright guys that work with me, are not 12, are not stupid, and still eat all this disgusting protein shakes, and hit the gym every day in hopes of popping out a 6 pack.
I feel like being super lean is so widely desired, even guys subject themselves to this hell. -
@NickyBones well... I don't hang around these types of people I guess :|
I don't hang around gyms at all, though that might be something I should change.
@kiki I mean one of her previous rants sort of lead me to think about this topic, I kinda expected her to comment -
@LotsOfCaffeine Going to the gym or being active is totally fine and healthy. But obsessing over your looks...for me it's a turn off.
-
@NickyBones yeah I get that
I sort of have to think about Instagram on this topic, never got the appeal behind it
I mean I'm a guy who never even shows his face online so it's clearly not for me -
@kiki Are we talking Keanu Reeves in Cyberpunk 2077? I'd take Keanu in any form.
I had to google Transhumanism, but it seems like they focus on improving skills and intellect and not replacing body parts just for the sake of appearance. I am not entirely sure how I feel about it, but I wouldn't put it in the same category as butt fillers. -
-
kiki324243y@NickyBones it’s okay not to care about your appearance as long as you’re Jeri Ellsworth level of sexy
-
@kiki I definitely care about my appearance, I just draw a line of how much time, effort and frustration goes into this.
-
kiki324243y@NickyBones well whatever you do it’s successful because, well, you’re on Jeri Ellsworth level of sexy.
-

kiki324243y@LotsOfCaffeine google has the same logic when it comes to their servers and google drive files lmao
It’s my servers, I’ll read that files
super random
I never got the notion of "men don't like smart women", it's not a stereotype that I see in real life too much.
And I kinda think the opposite way, like yes honey please go on about mathematical topics I don't know a thing about <3
