This rememberes me of the comedy movie Outsoured from 2006. Where an american dude was sent to india to train his call center replacement. Charming and funny story with a decent amount of bollwood dancing.

@F1973 Usually after someone gets a call from a scammer. I do french accents, I try to do Arnold accents, british accents, australian accents, Connery accent, etc. I enjoy trying to speak like other people do. Usually to the amusement of the people around me.

@F1973 There is/was some guy on youtube that teaches you to do accents. I think I saw part of some of them. I need to rewatch. He had guidance for all sorts of them. There were tricks to doing them. One trick I learned for french is to always say the letter "z" instead of "th". The reason is there is no z sound in french. Another is chinese has no conjunction words. So eliminating those you sound like an asian speaker.

@sauravchamoli17 India has a huge population. Just going by percentages you are more likely to run into an Indian scammer than some other nationalities. This is not a measure of your society/country/ethnicity.
-
@F1973 I know, I usually shoot for a semi oriental asianese accent than any specific one.

@Jilano I thought Floyd was Pink... who knew... I am going to go back to the dark side of the moon now...

something the telecom companies could do:
have some sort of third party to verify a corporate caller setting up a call center is legit. companies that pay the fee tp be verified then get some badge or indicator in caller id.
also fixing caller id so that it cant be changed arbitrarily would help a lot. -

The thing that stands out to me is how few of these types of calls come from China. Feels like not trying to skip the "fully industrialized" stage worked out pretty well for them, comparatively. India jumping straight to a service economy without the necessary infrastructural stages is the root of all of this. -
@SortOfTested I also imagine that for China itself they are not letting their people interact with people who might tell you how the world operates differently than what their government tells them. I mean, all of their internet is highly filtering thanks to Google's support for that regime.

@Demolishun
When I lived there, connected people weren't ignorant of the world, even with the great firewall. Everyone has a VPN, and for the most part were just trying to get by and live their life. Similar to the US, educated people are well versed in the rest of the world, poor people self-isolate because they have low possibility of ever needing to interact. -
I am just happy no one took this as me hating on Indians cuz I legit have nothing against them. I just withi their country would not force so many people to go into such business man for real.

@AleCx04 it's a real problem. Those few scammers damage the reputation of the whole nation of india.
Luckily there is Jim Browning who makes those bastards affraid. He managed to get several scam centers to close like this one.

If someone calls me with the thickest indian accent in the world and they tell me that they are Dave or Mark from an American sounding company I eould usually assume I am getting spammed or phishing calls.
If american companies are contracting from India to do these sorts of things I would really like to know the numbers for it, since I would assume that the average tech company would be like "hey wait a minute this sounds fishy af!"
Not hating on my Indian homies, y'all know i got love for ya, but fuuuuck man y'all can't deny that a lot of fake scam calls come from over there. They can come from anywhere really, but i have gotten many from over there
