Boss: I was looking over our expenses and was wondering why you are ordering a new piece of equipment?
Me: (I stand up & address my fellow code-drones) Can everybody save everything right now please. Good? Now newGuy commit your changes.
(Audible typing followed by the entire room groaning.)
Me: He just deleted everything...again and I am running out of backup storage.
Boss: ........So you want 1 of those things or 2?

    Teach the new guy...

@crooks5001 Oh boy have I tried. I don't have the time to train the new guy on something I have showed him how to do 4 times a week every week for 3 months.

@TheFallenKnght There are sponges in this world. I don't know how to deal either.

    I understand that feeling.

Or fire the guy! Happy new year folks :)

Write him a shell script (or batch, depending on OS) that does it properly and stick it in his PATH. he won't learn but it'll stop you throwing your coffee over him :)

Wtf is wrong with firing stupid people? Why do everybody seems to avoid it? Yes, there are legal issues and everything, but wtf? Am I missing something?

@azous humanity, sympathy, and kindness come into play a lot with that. Pity too sometimes.

In your defence, how can he get a commit so horribly wrong that he ends up deleting everything? How can rm -rf ./ be confused with git commit -m?????

@RhysOC I understand all of it, I just don't understand it in this kind of situation where its 3 months in and being a major threat every commit 😂

@azous it is ridiculous I agree, but it could just be confidence issues? Or he's got a bad git install? I mean, as I said before, how on earth can you get those commands mixed up??

@RhysOC our intern (recently hired?) always messes up with git in ways I can't imagine how, that's super annoying, some people don't take the time to learn the tools and end up acting desperately and messing things up 😂😂

@azous may because he isn't in charge... and the boss won't

The only way I can think of why this is happening is because he's force committing on top of the changes that people have made. Just put him on his own branch.
