Stackoverflow is an awesome way to find answers to programming problems. It can also be a toxic place in my opinion. I quit posting questions a few years ago. Whenever I posted a question after searching everywhere for hours and trying to be as constructive and everything as possible and making sure it wasn't a duplicate question, it would still be closed as non constructive or down voted or something else. This is why I also dislike stackoverflow next to it being really helpful very often.

@aswinramakrish Don't really get what your are trying to say. Been wanting to post this on here for a while and just saw a post about so being toxic sometimes so thought why the hell not now. I'm not a person who rants just for getting upvotes.

Stackoverflow is good if your question is already answered

I know the feeling, some of the other stack overflow sites like the security one isn't quite as bad but stack overflow is quite bad

Heartily agree the OP on this one.

From my experience asking anything results in on of the following;

the question will get summarily discarded even though its not a really a duplicate by a nazi...

Or someone will only post to question your approach...

Or someone will ask some extra details about the problem then vanish....

Or it will get ignored...

I've actually had more help and constructive responses from posting a question on hackforums 😂

I think this a part of becoming a mature skilled worker. If you can't ask a question on SO, how can you write a decent pull request? It's about humility and empathy and respect. So many people want to win, but they don't want to be mentored.

Stackoverflow has reached its peak and if nothing will be changed it will go down pretty quickly. They have to find the way to keep people cool and allow to find the right answer quickly. Would be cool if google could acquire them and build some search engine inside of it. Merging some similar questions would be cool too.

Feel the exact same way. They make it damn near impossible for a newbie or a struggling student to feel comfortable asking questions due to the often times toxic feedback that is given. At the beginning of my college career working on a few projects I asked some questions, after doing extensive research to ensure I wasn't asking a duplicate question (much like you did), and rather than a simple "this was answered here <link>" or "read this <link>", I got angry replies of wasted time and was even called names for asking what seemed to them to be a trivial question, even when I struggled to find an answer. I go there for answers now and nothing else. They need to take notes from DevRant on how to build a community.
