What's your opinion on these sharp and very defined icons? Personally, I don't like them because they are too skinny. I like big, meaty icons and buttons because they seem less frustrating to click. There's nothing worse than a UI with tiny buttons.

    Not skinny enough, no blinking cursor for my input. Doesn't support man {icon}. Its really not a ui at all, really.

    Slightly thicker lines and they're perfect. Not all lines, eg. the waves on the screencast icon can remain thin.

    They look great blown up in this pic...

    100% agree, honestly most iconsets are pretty bad.
    The only ones I've ever found that are actually nice are https://feathericons.com/

    @SortOfTested We get it, you like TUI, can other people have nice things tho?

    @homo-lorens
    Yes, absolutely. NCurses is open source 😸

    @12bitfloat those are nice.

    I can't ask for better. This is as if the designer knew what I want

    Who cares if it's thin or thick

    I like them. They’re very easy to look at and their functions are immediately obvious.

    Adding much more to them would just be a distraction.

    @Root mm, but here they are in context. When given my screen size, they seem... Frail. They blend in with text because that's what they look like. They don't grab my attention as functional parts of the UI. They seem like I need to be very particular about where on my screen I press my finger, or else I may miss them

    Hell, the text is actually *thicker* than the icons

    @AlgoRythm Fair. They are thin in that screenshot. But I think all they really need is a touch of color.

    @Root colour? Blasphemy!

    @Root another thing which irks me is buttons with no clear boundaries. I can make assumptions about where the search button ends and where the cast button begins... But that's all I can ever make; assumptions. I like clear boundaries on functional parts of the UI.

    @AlgoRythm That's what a hover highlight is for.
  • 4
    @homo-lorens you can't hover on mobile. You can only press and then slide your finger off that item and hope that you don't activate that item or something else on the page. Which is NOT equivalent to hover.

    @AlgoRythm I didn't think of mobile. Clearly, mobile buttons need a background.
  • 1
    @AlgoRythm on mobile you can't accurately hit anything anyway so any tap in the general direction should be considered a hit
  • 0
    @electrineer sort of pessimistic. Taps are rather precise nowadays. No, you can't pixel hunt with your finger but you can get within, I would say, ten pixels if you're careful and you have a decent touch screen.

    I fucking HATE it. That’s YouTube for anybody wondering. They are constantly changing the design and they’re not focusing on the real problem: THEIR INFINITE SCROLL VIEW BREAKS ALL THE FUCKING TIME!!
