@netikras Haha 😂
The worst part is that I just ordered a VGA cable.
My wife said: "So we can toss the cable crate?"
"Uh no"
"Why not?"
"Because I saw a SCART video cable in there. You never know when you need one of those" -
Root826024y@d-fanelli That was the original; no exaggeration. The new spec requests something equally frightful. But no, it’s cleaner than this now, and I’m fighting to keep it that way. Almost out of fights, though.

@FinlayDaG33k The server is not so remote that I need a remote KVM (In fact, it's about 30cm to the right from my penis, next to my desk)
The issue is that it was powered off, for unexplained reasons. Turning it on makes the fans spin, and the network card light turns on, but it doesn't show up in the router. Most likely some kind of POST issue... I did spill a glass of wine into it. Wait, did I say unexplained reasons? But I kind of need both a VGA cable and VGA display. -
@Root When I'm out of fights I usually just start clumsily undressing, until everyone awkwardly slips out of the room. Then I'm free to do things my way again!
It is a risky move though (what if someone stays?), and a bit of a gender specific trick. -
@Root Hmm I think farting could be utilized as a deterrent.
I think developers should use weaponized farts more often. -
A good Fortran programmer doesn't even need a computer to create a spaghetti mess.

@yowhatthefuck @jeeper
I don't think you even need to add any herbs or spices, when cables are stored this long they absorb all kinds of interesting flavors from their environment.
This particular crate of fermented wires was started at the end of the cold war, in 1988, so I have gotten attached to it.
Just by opening the crate I was met by a bouquet of nutty, dusty and subtle fruity aromatics, the aged oak of rotting attic beams, the funky deep characteristics of phtalate plasticizers, the sharpness of dimethylacetamide leaked from popped capacitors.
There are even mushrooms growing in the corner... talk about locally sourced food! -
cho-uc19624yAs someone who has a mild OCD, if I see something like that, my first impulse is to sort them out one by one.
:/
Anyone here also think the same? -
@cho-uc I have done this multiple times. But then what to do with the sorted wires? I try to bundle them nicely and put them back in the box, but when you open it a few months later it's all one big wire orgy again.
-
@bittersweet only if you don't organize them.
Depending on what you want...
I've got a full storage container:
https://amazon.com/dp/B008DHZXY0/
All seperated nicely.
Cable ties with hook and loop fastener are good, colored for length indication.
Simple system, no chaos, easy access -
@IntrusionCM Hmm I think I'll still go with "order from webshop when I need a cable, toss in bin when I don't need it, donate bin to thrift shop when bin is full".
-
Jedidja10144y@cho-uc I'm fucking chaotic but still I'd like to roll those up in nice loops and put a velcro cable strap around.
Not that I couldn't stand it I just like to wind cables -
@Root you need a clown bag resembling your product manager. You know those punching clown bags that spring back and make a little honk noise when you hit the nose?
-
@bittersweet so you use this tactic in street fights https://youtube.com/watch/...&
-
@electrineer Respect. But again, there's the risk that someone just drops to their knees and passionately starts licking your balls. Then what? Just try to enjoy yourself while a 6 foot long muscled dude drools over your testicles?
-
@AtuM Ah that moment when you start stacking DIN-to-PS2 and PS2-to-USB adapters 😄
-
Oh, what a pain in the ass... happens to me every time when I need some cable quickly.
I just need a fucking VGA cable for a server 😡
