Holy shit, those ciphers are quite a throwback to a bygone age... I'm a criminal, I use ed25519 and bcrypt. I also lied about one of these.

But hang on, if criminals can use all the good ciphers.. does this mean that this doesn't fix anything? HOLY SHIT! 😱

Britain will basically be exactly where it's at. Since the formation of the EU, the people native to the UK have seen a strengthening of the economy, accompanied by a dramatic reduction in jobs vs increase in population.

The problem lies in that the promise of EU open borders hasn't gone both ways. People from the UK haven't seen the benefit directly to them, rather immigrant labour has become the primary recipient of the gains, with the UK holding the top spot for inward migration yoy since 1993. At the same time, the UK contribution towards the EU general budget has more than doubled since 2010.

The only real benefit that the people in the UK have seen from being part of the EU is a growth in trade and general social system. This is a small comfort to people who lost their jobs to lower cost labour, or been moved to zero hour contracts; re: the race to the bottom. This manifested as a coup in the form of a notoriously unpopular Tory government swaying voters in the last election due to Labour promising a stay the course approach.

Couple this with a flood of bad foreign assets that UK banks were obliged to hold as collateral that turned toxic during the collapse and you have an overall toxic situation.

Now, that's not to say that they UK was doing just fine in the 70s; like most developed economies it was bleeding jobs to cost and having difficulties exporting it's goods to markets with protectionist economics (read: basically every other developed nation). This is just a general statement that being a member of the EU did not solve any of the broader social issues that the UK was facing, and indeed made them worse by masking them under a dazzling veneer of corporate profiteering.

Personally, I'm just waiting for the momentary gbp tank to shift a lot of USD over. I'm expecting to see a panic lull in exchange rates ~.95 and a resurgence to ~1.10-15.

If you assume leadership from several western democracies have now been compromised to critical mass by former cold war enemies... many of the choices a lot of these countries are making tend to make a lot more sense from that perspective.
