Because why even Linux if you aren't gonna customize the living shit out of your desktop?

I used to spend hours upon hours customizing my desktop.

I think now I turn on whatever is most unobtrusive and ... leave everything else alone.

I find myself more concerned about what is up in VS Code or whatever tool now than the OS itself.

@N00bPancakes Same. I often don’t even have a desktop background, and certainly no icons.

    If I wasn’t a web dev by trade, I probably wouldn’t even start X.

@N00bPancakes @Root yeah I know it's mostly pointless, but I've got some free time and a taste for eye candy, so why not?

    @10Dev

Nothing wrong with making yourself at home in your OS.

@10Dev 😅 I didn’t mean to ridicule! It looks great and I sort of miss doing this, honestly.

I’m so focused on work now that I don’t have time for really anything else, and I absolutely hate it.

Once I find my one true distro I'll install KDE and use a Win98 theme. No hours of customizing, it'll be already perfect.

@c3r38r170 I strongly recommend Manjaro. It’s got the rolling-release model of Arch, access to the AUR, and incredible customizability, but it’s easy to install and has great hardware support as well

@10Dev That's one of my candidates, but there are 2 issues: systemd and the not-so-minimal minimal installation.

@ostream Absolutely. I am incredibly burned out right now and struggling to even do the simple tickets.

It’s a recurring problem for me: I don’t pay attention to myself and don’t know my limits.

Desktop? Linux users don't need a desktop. They just need a command line interface. Skadoosh.

Because it just works and that's what is actually important: a functional system

    Awesome
While I do see that it is in fact kinda pointless to spend time to make a desktop look nice ( because in the end you have squares with information in them anyways ) I do enjoy tinkering around with some possibilities in changing looks from time to time.

I would say my setup atm is pretty basic and functional - which is always the thing I end up with over the time :D

But would you be willing to share you conky.conf? I would like to steal some of your style settings :)

Best desktop is an empty desktop

I have my dotfiles, been carrying them for a couple of years now since I switched to i3.

I am on gnome I don't care, I just change the theme and that is it.

My desktop is all black, like my heart.

Now a days the only customisation i do is to make background of terminal transparent, so i can see whats happening in the background.
