Vodka for me too lol. I like whiskey but I get too sick and hungover from the dark stuff. @Root can drink whiskey like a fish

I have heard the taste for whiskey develops at a certain age for everyone. But I would agree, I think a good gin and tonic is 1000x better.
-
Welp, depends on the Whiskey but yeh, I can't drink it pure as well, it only goes down with a lot of ice and Cola.
-
iiii92194yNot weird. It's actually weird to like strong alcohol.
I fully agree with you that vodka is better. It's just neutral alcohol without shit. -
It also depends on which kind of whiskey you're drinking. I love bourbon whiskey so much that I can drink it straight, but can't stand rye whiskey at all.
Not that there's anything wrong with disliking all whiskey, just wanted to mention that there is a wide variety of flavors. -
Cognac, bitches.
The best things in life are locked up in a cellar for years, and taste like abuse & grape.
Lots of concentrated ethanol with subtle fruity undertones, because... well, that's exactly what it is.
It's less pretentious yet more classy, and much more honest than whiskey. -
it might as well be *how* you drink it. small sips and getting a lot of smells make you taste the flavours, regarding big gulps that are indeed just awful. this changed my very same position and now i am all in on 10 year old scottish islay peaty scotch. but of course it could just be not yours though.

jeeper59684yIt does depend on the whiskey. Sour mash whiskeys always taste like they have some sour milk in there somewhere, blended scotches taste like tobacco spit. Try a good bourbon or any single malt scotch on the rocks. Let the ice melt a little and swirl it. Add a little filtered water if you want. The flavors should start to expand and develop. It’s still not a flavor that everybody loves, but there’s flavors and scents in the bouquet, which you can appreciate are there.

@iiii Well I currently have a €50 Camus XO cognac and a €25 Greek Metaxa brandy in the kitchen. Different, but both are great.
I don't care that much for protected region origin, hype brands or super expensive bottles. As with most products, mid-range is where it's at. -
Try Jameson with ginger ale, or any 'darker' whiskey as a whiskey sour (i.e. with fresh squeezed lemon juice). Maybe those mixed drinks will change your mind on whiskey!
-
For some reason I read 'whiskey' as 'windows'. First I agreed and then I was very confused
-
iiii92194y@bittersweet I've liked brandy before I've gained innate disgust towards strong alcohol.
-
I like whiskey but don't go like: "oh I taste undertones of this and that and that".
I mainly just like the smokey flavour and base my experience on that really.

Am I weird for not liking Whiskey?
It just kinda tastes... bad. Everybody is taking about notes of vanilla, undertones of strawberry, BITCH where. It tastes like weird with alcohol. And the alcohol part isn't really the problem. I'd much rather drink straight up vodka. Yes it tastes like drain cleaner but at least it doesn't have this weird ass taste to it. I actually quite like vodka. I just don't get whiskey
