Just do it™
Life is about exploring and making misstakes.
If it doesn't fit, move on. -
If you survived 4 years as a dev then you are either good at it or your boss is taking advantage of you.
Start applying to non junior positions and see how it goes. -
lewdogg9958yLet me ask: do you not feel good enough because they made you feel that way? Or is there another reason?
-
lewdogg9958yNever been in a junior dev position, because at my point of entry there was no such thing ... you were either a dev or not a dev.
I do often wonder how long the junior devs at my current place will allow themselves to be called junior. We have 1 junior dev, who is well beyond junior as far as skill level, who has been a junior dev for over 5 years.
2 possible reasons:
He does not want any more responsibility and therefore has never brought it up ... or the powers that be have made him feel he is still a junior.
Either way, never let that happen to you!!!!! Once the ladder stops extending, it is time for a new job. -
yarwest26658yI completely agree with what everyone here has said. Just give it a try and see how it goes :D
Just to add something, what I see as imposter syndrome is the following: when I see how much stuff there is that I still haven't learned and how much others know compared to what I know and it makes me feel like I am not (as) good :p but that's just me. -
boubalo5878ySame exact situation am in mate
Except that my company is about to go tits up, we only have enough funds to last till April, so am pretty much forced to find a new employer.
The way i see it is that i have nothing much to lose by giving it a shot. Try mentioning to agent that you are looking to transition to mid level, they might have some good ideas, mine has brought me jobs which the employer expect the candidates to not have 100% of the skills required and willing to give em a leg up.
Even so am terrified of getting the job then not being able to keep up , but sometimes leaping into the water is the best way forward, i was scared when i joined my current job too, was stressful at the start but i rapidly got to grips with it.
Whats The worse that can happen?
Surely you wont get dragged out and beaten with old dell laptops 😁 in the parking lot -
boubalo5878y@wbunton haha sure go ahead, it was inspired from the time i dropped one on my foot.
You can also add being whipped by usb cables ( hdmi for more serious crimes although i feel that DVI would probably be too cruel ) 😆
Joined a company as a junior developer and have been working there for almost 4 years.
Too scared to leave because I don't know if I'm good enough to apply for a non junior role :(
Is this the so called "imposter syndrome?"
