Yesterday a scammer spam me with emails. So I decided to write a code to automate writing emails using SMTP methods for spamming them back... In a while loop...

So today I look at their website (using Tor in VM) the website is gone. Seriously I want to know what happened. Yesterday I visit their site, they are a gambling platform blablabla...but today the site is gone.

Btw , I'm not a hacker , but I am just an ordinary software engineer (nothing special about me here) who know how a while loop function.

But counter spamming might make a lot of lifes miserable.

ISP has a scam / abuse list, take your complaints there

Odds are it's just a throw away domain.
Purchase, use for a day, move on to the next one when sendgrid or similar service blacklists the domain.

Good for you, ignoring/blocking is the recommended solution.

e.g. spamming leads to IP blocks and entries on spam lists...

In the worst case a whole subnet gets banned because of your counter spamming... Making life miserable for those who have now to handle the unblocking process.

In the worst case your servers ISP notices what's going on and you'll get the blame - plus a hefty invoice as all ISPs have explicit terms stating this as illegal behaviour that will be punished by
pressing charges.

Yeah. Abuse lists take their time and might not get read at all... But at least you don't risk collateral damage.

@IntrusionCM or even using services like tor, getting the toor outgoing node blacklisted will damage the toor network, maybe not very much.

And getting the subnet blacklisted (your subnet) can affect others using the same isp as you, possibly killing their business since such blacklist can take months or years to fix.

Never counter attack a spammer unless you have government support backing you.

Counterspamming as you did it isn't going to hurt the spammers at all.

What actually does work is emulating prey and wasting their time like some people do for the lulz or because they hate spammers.
Extra bonus points for actually p0wning them.

You obviously need some OpSec skills to not risk becomming a target yourself.

I have done that, numerous times. Nothing changed.

Either the provider is in on the scam, or they're so inept they shouldn't be in business.

Someone wants to waste my time and attempt to scam me out of my honest earned cash, fuck em. I say burn em all.
