Im now working as a fulltime dev for 3 years. I do programming since im 9 and now that I collected some experience, I have to to say, its horrible. Seriously. What the fuck is wrong with german internship companys? Letting me do 3 years of FUCKING CRYSTAL REPORTS. IN A DEVELOPMENT TEAM THAT CONSISTS OF A TEAM LEAD THAT ACTUALLY HAS TO LEARN SHIT LIKE PROPER OOP AND ASYNC/AWAIT FROM ME. THEY EVEN ASKED ME IF I CAN DROP OF MY HOBBY PROJECTS TO WORK ON SAMPLES THAT THEY CAN LEARN FROM! NO! FUCK! JUST BECAUSE THESE DOUCHBAGS ARE TOO LAZY TO FUCKING LEARN TECHNOLOGY THEY SHOULD BE PASSIONATE ABOUT IN THEIR FREE TIME, IM NOT MAKING IT MY JOB TO FREAKING SHOW THEM THAT HAVING A STATIC CLASS CONTAINING ALL MODELS EVER EXISTED IN THE APP IS A BAD THING! SERIOUSLY, THERES ONLY ONE INSTANCE OF EVERY MODEL WE HAVE! AND THEN THEY BLAME SQL SERVER FOR RACE CONDITIONS WHEN TRYING ASYNC!!!! WHAT THE FUCK!! AND STILL, IF I TELL THEM WHATS WRONG, IM AN IDIOT BECAUSE IM A JUNIOR! Please tell me that i didnt waste 10 years of my life dedicating to such bullshit. Will that change? Is it company specific?

They're paid to work at work, not to learn in their free time.

It sounds like a combination of better documentation and a pluralsight course will fix your problems.

Some advice: Pay attention during interviews and don't be afraid to ask questions.

I always ask tech leads to describe their products(The one i'm expected to work on) architecture and the main problems with it. If they claim that it is great and has no problems they're either completely incompetent or started working on it this morning.

@starless they refuse to consume any english documentation. I already brought up pluralsight

@ItsNotMyFault Thats a good one. Will try that in my upcoming interviews, thanks!

@xeronik well remember, there's still many German and Austrian fellows whose English isn't as solid as ours is.

I would not do programming in my free time. Sorry :) I have other hobbies.

@OttkO thats not the point. The point is that if you lack programming skills, you HAVE to educate. May it be in freetime or at work. But they dont even want to ask for education

@xeronik sounds like you had really bad luck. I don't have even a year of actual paid work experience, but I'm absolutely sure there _are_ good places out there with nice and knowledgeable people. If you don't like your current job, or if you face such exploitation and incompetency, then there is only exit - switch jobs. With 3 years of experience I'm fairly sure you can get an intermediate dev job. Maybe try searching on a bigger scale, in other countries, if you're willing to move?

@AlmightyBaka There are tons of decent - great places, the bad places tend to become worse with time though as any good devs they manage to trick into accepting a job will leave fairly quickly while the bad ones stick around since they don't have as many options.
