@FinlayDaG33k Well, they're pixels. In most anime series the characters don't really portray real personalities. I mean, they're also the police force of that city, right?

So at some level I understand that people connect with badass characters from anime, or fantasize about those characters.

I really didn't even know any anime or anime culture until my wife started unironically saying "Saten Ruiko is my waifu". I assume she means she identifies heavily with a shy, neat, polite, outsider; And fantasizes about having a similar personality to connect with in RL — not that she actually has a thing for middle school girls in real life.
