I had a startup and I failed miserably. It wasn't a tech startup, but I don't think it matters.

I'd say that what I learnt is:

    - just because you think it's a sexy idea, doesn't mean it *is* sexy
    - in other words, build shit that *people* are looking for, not you in particular
    - in other words, the whole "I had a problem so I decided to build something to solve it" is a bit of a fallacy

Of course, the only way to learn that is by building stuff and putting it out there, seeing what happens, rinse, repeat. So consider:

    - setting goals and target dates
    - if you don't meet them, STOP, take what you've learnt and try something else
    - don't underestimate the value of marketing and biz dev (as some devs do); they have skills that you probably don't have and what they do take a lot of time
    - follow your ideas with passion, but allocate time to reflect upon yourself

    Finally:

    - try putting as much as you can in writing; very few friendships withstand the presence of debt

There is nothing rude on trying to understand where other people failed, or where projects went wrong.

@dfox I smell a new feature request! Following threads!

I was actually thinking off creating a desktop client that allows me to follow users... But I guess if you add a Follow feature I wont need to...

There is the fuckup nights meetup. Should be around in several cities. I know about Mexico City, New York and Berlin.

@thmnmlst hm... Then why are there so many comments "following"

Personally there are a few users whose posts I really like so would like to see them when they are posted, without having to check their profile page every time. That and I guess I'm just looking for a side project to get back to doing some of my own coding... And C#

@thmnmlst no one is asking for a twitter like feature where you can share your follower count. Just a button next to "favorite" and if anyone has posted something, you get a notif, that's it.
