Windows XP isn't even 20 years old yet. I used Windows 95 as a kid and I don't really consider myself old.

Yep. And it was actually a good OS with a nice GUI for its time.
But the C64 was way underpowered for that kind of OS. Painting wasn't much fun. WYSIWYG desktop publishing had a lot of micro (and occasionally macro) freezes...
Arcade games and jump'n runs where what really ran best on that hardware.
And the SID audio synthesizer chip is still used (most often emulated) by some die-hard chiptune artists today... -

The cards were then shipped off to the local council offices, where they were run, we got the results back about a week later -

Dude I'm 50 I learned to code in BASIC on a RadioShack TSR-80. We stored our programs on a freaking music cassette. We had modem cradles for holding the handset of the phone.
