Hey guys.
Do you find it hard to code when depressed or it's only me?

Life feels hard when your depressed. Doesn't matter what you are trying to do.

are you listening to any music?
    try different genres

    dreampop

    edm

Anderson Paak radio on pandora or Tycho

    Maybe a podcast like Harmontown?

    Definitely. Constant struggle

I listen to some music and try to just let every thought go and concentrate on the code.

Yes, but once i start, i forget what depressed me 😀

@tommy thank you for the advice :)

@Watt kinda hard while the reason is in the very same room...

@blybly hahaha coding is fun after all. If I were very rich, I would definitely work for free

Of course. I remember someone said something like "an engineer with a depression is like a construction worker with broken fingers". It's pretty bad. Hang in there buddy...

Sounds like you have a crush on your coworker huh. If so try not to act so mopey or she'll be able to tell. But to your point, there's little I can suggest. I can't code for my life if I'm depressed. Take a few walks, go out with one or two friends, smoke pot, etc. You'll have to distract yourself and talk to another girl so you can forget about this one.

You gotta have a healthy mind to code properly, last year I almost could got nothing done for 3 months. I would try to sit and start coding but after minutes I was still changing the same lines and such. In some cases it is impossible to concentrate, and without concentration quite hard to code anything at all.
Try to resolve the issue that is currently putting you in the depressed mode, by personal experience I can say that therapy might help (if you're at that stage that everything just seems broken). Good luck, keep strong and I hope you can get over it.

If you are like me and learning to code, remotely on your own, at your own pace, you will definitely feel depressed at one point or another.
The best thing you can do is to try to code every day for 30 minutes, if you cant do that at home, then you need to find a cafe where you will be able to code for free, most likely a chain, or a very large cafe, so you wont have to go through the trouble of purchasing multiple things (you can go broke like this LOL)
also you may want to find an online community, chatroom, etc. but more often than not it might lead you astray, distracted, etc.
So always be kind, but firm that you are working on your own project, workload... unless of course the group/friends goal aligns with yours :)

@Greggergalactic @tommy Yeah I'd get behind this. For years I thought listening to certain kinds of music made me code faster and better. Eventually I realised it probably was distracting and slowing me down but at least it kept me in a good mood so I didn't hit that ditch you're talking about. Doesn't always work...

Do something easy that you know you will succeed at... Will be a little boost and show you you can be successful. Exercise is another great one if you're depressed. Start racking up some little 'wins', no matter how small, they all add up.

There are many developers have bipolar disorder (and this is a reason why they became developers). Learning about that can help, maybe you will understand about yourself or/and co-workers more. https://vimeo.com/72690223

I had depression when I started learning front-end and I have it still... And still wondering is it (learning) hard for me because of it or it's hard for every beginner...and sorry for my poor english

@kudamalam thanks, I didn't think about it that way haha. I think I'll be fine

@Greggergalactic that's very romantic (the iced tea thing), I wish I find something like your tea that works for me. I enjoy liquor like A LOT. When I was younger I used to study with a glass of my favorite liquor, rocks

@cgranados not a crush, it's an actual relationship haha, but everything seems to be fine now. I found my self a lot more productive than ever before. Thinking so much clearly

@mrbongiolo I believe my concentration is a little weird. It's very very easy for me to get distracted, but while I'm concentrated I can do a lot in very little time

@tommy I'm still looking for a community for me. It seems not many Spanish speaking developers out there want to socialize hahaha

@Adamu I find music distracting indeed, but it's also inspiring. I sometimes like to write my code synchronized with the tune rhythm and, although it can be slow, thoughts flow very nice in my mind

@biscuit I like to play games on my phone haha or even play some game on the computer on my spare time, to get relaxed
