So apparently the Amazon S3 outage happened because of one setting being wrong in a looooong string of commands issued to shut down just a few servers.

Am I the only Linux user who totally gets how that could happen to just about anyone regardless of how awesomely competent they might be?

    @mhudson Exactly. Then again, the plot of a tech thriller would have him wearing new concrete shoes exploring the bottom of the Hudson.

    Do you think they would point at some purely technical reason? Nah, nobody talks shit about the glorious cloud. It was a human error of course. Nuttin wrong with da cloud.

    But it's the CLOUD. It can't possibly be something as trivial as computers somewhere being managed by some...human being of flesh and bones. I refuse to believe it.
