A lot of companies delay discussing compensation till the later stages. I don't understand why. But you can always ask whenever you want like: "Shall we discuss my compensation?". There's nothing wrong or undignified in that. You are walking into that job interview precisely for this reason. To charge compensation in exchange of your service.

Guys, I had my first REAL developer interview today. Without jinxing myself, I'd like to say it went really good. We discussed the companys upcoming projects, what they expect from a new developer, etc. but some thing that bothers me about it is there was never any discussion about my expected compensation. I'm not sure if this is common or not, but we'll see.
